Beauty Basic Favorites: Mascara, Foundation, & Dry Shampoo!

Every woman I know has some favorite go-to beauty products! Jennifer and I are going to share some of our personal beauty items that we love. We actually disagree on some, so for fun, we thought we could share each of our favorites in a couple categories so you have some options if you are looking for something new. The exciting part is that all of these products can be found on Amazon, so no need to rush to the store to purchase! We are looking forward to sharing some great deals on shopping and our favorite items as we head in to the busiest shopping season of the year. We hope you enjoy!

Stephannie: I feel like I have tried every mascara on the market from super cheap to crazy expensive. I do have sensitive eyes and I wear contacts, so many mascaras get the boot from me for being too fragrant or too flaky and irritating. Of the ones that make the cut, Too Faced Better then Sex mascara is by far my top choice. It doesn't flake or have a strong fragrance. It gives just the perfect amount of volume and length with one application. Plus, it is buildable and I can add a second layer for a more va-va-voom look

Jennifer: So I used to buy the cheapest mascara I could find, you know the Maybelline pink and black tube, well, that was my go to mascara. That is until a cute young teacher at school got a hold of my make-up bag. I was helping her get book clubs started in her room one day and after the kids left, I commented on how good her eye-make looked. I confessed I had been doing my eye make-up the same way for five years! She immediately grabbed an expo marker and drew an eye on the board. I had the best make-up lesson ever! She asked me to bring my make-up bag to school the next day. She was going to take a look at my eye-shadow colors and teach me a technique or two with my own shadows. The next day, she peeks in my bag. She pulls out my three dollar Maybelline mascara and says, "What is this???" Then she tosses it over her shoulder and says, "You are not 16 anymore." I guess you could say, I was shamed into rethinking my mascara choice. I did some brand hopping trying to find a new mascara before I settled on my new more grown-up mascara. To be fair, Stephannie's choice is a good mascara...I had a free sample of it one time at Sephora. While I like the Too Face Better than Sex mascara, I refuse to pay that much for mascara! I have found a version of Stephannie's favorite in L'Oreal Pairs Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara. It is almost as good!

Stephannie: I'll probably say this over and over again, but I have sensitive skin. It has taken years to find the best products to control my redness and blemish-prone skin. I'm so fair and every little imperfection shows on my face. If you had asked me years ago before I found Bare Minerals if I thought I would ever wear that kind of foundation, I would have laughed. I was a tried and true Estee Lauder Double Wear girl. For those of you that don't know that one, we are talking heavy coverage. One day, though, I meandered into a Bare Minerals store looking at their sparkly loose eyeshadows. I was convinced to do a makeover, and the rest is history. Those girls now know me by name when I walk in. Probably 90% of my beauty bag is from Bare Minerals. Anyway, back to the foundation. My favorite is the Matte foundation with SPF 15. It is light and buildable coverage. The matte finish gives just enough glow for my oily t-zone. And, it lasts all day...even through my 12+ hour hospital shifts. If you've never tired it, I encourage you go in for a skin matching. They have several varieties for different skin types. But, I love that I can hop on their website or Amazon if I need to restock without a trip to the mall.

Jennifer: When it comes to make-up, I am a little out of my element. I feel totally overwhelmed when I walk into a make-up store. Foundations are the worst! Too many colors, too many choices... can I say, instant stress! About three years ago, I ventured into Sephora and the sweetest lady said she would match me with the right foundation. I assumed this would mean trying a few out on my cheek and a lot going back and forth thinking about which color matched my skin tone the best. Wrong! She took a gun and held it up to my cheek and her gun told me Lancome 250 Bisque W. It was like magic! Now, I just head to the counter and ask for my 250 Bisque W.

Dry Shampoo:

Stephannie: I have become a lover of Not Your Mother's Clean Freak dry shampoo. If you don't already love one, this is the one to try! It absorbs the oil, doesn't leave that feeling of residue in my hair, and is lightweight and fresh. I really cannot say enough about how much I love this beauty hack. It is sold at just about every grocery store, so it is easy to grab some in a pinch. Plus, they sell cute little travel sizes that are TSA friendly for your carry-on luggage!

Jennifer: I have used many different brands of dry shampoo and my new favorite is Dove dry shampoo! It feels lighter and doesn't leave my scalp too dry. There is fine line between drying up a little grease and leaving you with dandruff. I also think this one smells the best.
